Boots No7 Poppy King Lipsticks & Lipglosses Review, Swatches & Photos

Dec 1, 2011 by

Boots no.7 has collaborated with world-renowned celebrity lipstick designer Poppy king, the Lipstick queen, to release a brand new limited-edition collection of  seven lipsticks and complementary lipglosses in matching shades. Inspired by the old Hollywood glamour and style, this versatile yet affordable lip colors collection is called  “The Magic of Lipstick” . Poppy has said the polka dots on her packaging for Boots were inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s famous beauty mark and the 7 shades have been named for the different emotions, personalities and auras Poppy feels lip color has the power to evoke.

I tried three shades from the collection – Allure, Confidence and Power

L - R : Allure, Confidence and Power

To begin with, these lipsticks have a creamy formula that glides over the lips smoothly. My dry lips feel hydrated instantly and I can feel the moisturizing effect even after the color is gone. There is no shimmer in any of the shades I tried but they do have a beautiful sheen and a sheer-medium color payoff that is easy to build up. I did not find these lippies to be long-wearing with an average wear time of about 1.5- 2 hours and they do not last well through eating or drinking.

Each of the lipstick in the collection features a lipgloss in the same shade that intensifies the color and adds shine for a luscious finish. The lipglosses have a lightweight, non-sticky consistency that feels good but doesn’t last very long (maybe just about an hour). Applied over the matching lipstick shades, they make your lips appear fuller! There is no fragrance or flavor in the lipsticks but the lipglosses have a light herbal (something like tea-tree, I’m not sure) scent that fades off quickly.

L - R : Allure, Confidence and Power

Allure is a soft peachy nude that works as the perfect MLBB shade for me and would look lovely on light to medium skintones.

Confidence is a classic nude shade with a universally flattering hue that enhances your natural lip color while adding a nice sheen.

Power is a sheer rose shade but is easily buildable to create a bolder lip. It’s the perfect everyday shade for most skin tones.

Bottom line? These lippies are definitely worth the haul if you are looking for creamy, easy-to-wear lip colors with a wallet-friendly price tag. The complementary lipglosses is a nice touch to add that extra “oomph” factor.  For $9.99 a pop, I recommend picking up at least one or two!

  6. Hmmm, I like the ‘confidence’ colour. But by looking at your swatches they don’t really look that good. But I’ll try them out.

Sabha – Hmmm……you might want to check out other shades in the collection. But if you like nudes, allure and confidence are the only choices.
