There is no denying that celebrities and world-renowned designers are transforming fashion this fall. Everybody’s style is different so we may disagree on these trends that are sweeping the country. Here are six new developments with my vote:
Accent fur
Snoop Dogg’s long fur fashion is out; say hello to accent fur. Whether it’s fur on the shoulders of a jacket or a splash of fur on a pair of boots, this trend is huge this fall. As the weather gets cooler, accent fur will be making its way to the forefront of fashion. This season, designers like Sergio Rossi, Alexander McQueen, Rachel Zoe, and Marc Jacobs are setting the stage for this trend, and I love it.
Wedge sneakers
Fashion designers from Isabel Marant to Steve Madden are bringing wedge sneakers to the limelight. Celebrities like Miranda Kerr, Kate Bosworth, and Rashida Jones love wearing their sneakers in public. They give comfort and height, but it’s hard to reconcile these two ideas. Should we run in them or are we supposed to walk tall and gracefully? Given the look and some extravagant colors, I’d have to say…hate it.
Black leather
Dark leather jackets never go out of style, but now black leather skirts and dresses are hitting the runway. This exotic look seems fierce and dangerous. Nothing seems sexier than a leather mini skirt. Since Jennifer Aniston showed off a Celine black leather dress at the London Horrible Bosses photocall in July, the trend has taken off. With its sophisticated yet edgy look, I love, love, love this trend!
Skulls and crosses
The newest symbols and embellishments include skulls and crosses on all types of clothing. In the 90’s, this would either show teenage angst or make a religious statement, but this trend can be done classy and tastefully. Lindsay Lohan and Christina Aguilera sport skull-printed tees and scarves frequently. Lace cross backs and skull cutouts on tops are bold and beautiful. Love it.
Peplums
Straight from the 80s, peplums are now added to all kinds of fashion pieces. Designed to give you a tiny waist and feminine hips, peplums are the latest trend for skirts, dresses, and jackets. Emma Stone, Blake Lively, Lucy Hale, and Zoe Saldana have flaunted peplum dresses and skirts at awards shows and other major events. When peplums are not outrageously large, I think they are girly and flattering (see Olivia Palermo at Christian Dior’s show during Paris Couture Fashion Week). Otherwise, peplums can be overwhelming and look more like airbags than accessories. Love it or hate it? The jury is still out on this one.
Spike heels
Make a major statement this fall in heels with spikes and studs on them. They come in a wide variety of colors to match anyone’s style or occasion. Celebrities like Lauren Conrad and Cameron Diaz have shown off their spike heels at events and in public. These daring new stilettos aren’t just for chicks on motorcycles; you can pair them with a dress, skirt, or even jeans for a sexy look. I love it.
