I learned the importance of water conservation early on, during my childhood days back in India. In summertime, there was always a shortage of water so we had to minimize our water consumption and use it wisely. We didn’t have a 24-hour water supply back then and needed to store water in large tanks for daily use. All those years of conservation made me realize the importance of this precious natural resource (that we often take for granted!) so you’d never catch me wasting water, be it in the shower or while doing the dishes. I make sure to turn off the water when I shampoo my hair or when I am brushing my teeth etc. I also encourage my little girl to do the same so that she develops these habits right from the start.
So, what does water conservation have to do with your beauty routine? More than you might think! We tend to spend a lot of time in the shower, for example. Currently, the average shower time in the U.S is 7.5 minutes and uses up to 20 gallons of H2O. If you cut down your shower in the morning to five minutes, you alone would save about 80 gallons of water a week and an average of 320 gallons of water a month.
This month, Neutrogena Naturals and their brand ambassador Kristen Bell have partnered with The Nature Conservancy for the “Every Drop Counts” campaign that encourages people to pledge to reduce their water usage by taking small steps in their everyday lives such as taking a shorter shower. The Nature Conservancy is the leading conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters.
You can also help make a difference by visiting Facebook.com/Neutrogena and take the pledge to adopt simple water-conserving behaviors – the goal is to save 1 million gallons of water! And by pledging, you will be automatically entered to win a luxury green spa trip in Napa Valley and weekly eco giveaways!
To help the cause and support their water conservation efforts, Neutrogena will contribute 10% of the purchase price of each Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Cleanser sold during the month of October to The Nature Conservancy.
Neutrogena has also offered to giveaway an Eco Beauty Prize Pack to drive awareness of the cause. The prize package includes three products from the Neutrogena Naturals line – the Naturals Purifying facial cleanser, Naturals Lip Balm and Nourishing Multi-Vitamin Moisturizer. (Did you know that the Naturals product line includes post-consumer recycled packaging – 70% less water was used to make it!)
Use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter the Neutrogena Naturals Eco Beauty Prize Pack. Open for US only. Ends 10/29/13.
