It’s that time of the year again…for New Year’s resolutions. The great thing about New Year’s resolutions is that they get you into a positive mindset to make a fresh start and a determined outlook on the shiny new year. But let’s be honest – most of us make big resolutions for ourselves in January, but many a times that list of healthy habits & behaviors is completely abandoned by the end of March/April. This year, I have decided to take a little different approach and instead of setting lofty goals that are too hard to achieve, I have decided to make some meaningful promises to myself that I’ve been wanting to make anyway…and they aren’t that far out of reach!
A New Year #STARTSHERE and I’m kicking it off with these health, wellness & beauty resolutions for a fabulous 2015!
Be more Forgiving and Empathetic – It’s easier said than done but one of my goals this year is to try to forgive and forget often and quickly. Holding onto anger not only hurts our relationships but also our physical & emotional well being and our ability to heal. And I really need to eliminate mental clutter and heal my body after all these years of gastro problems (I have severe intolerance to gluten and dairy products). As they say, “If you knew everything about everyone, you’d forgive everyone for everything”. You don’t always know what someone is going through or why they acted how they did.
Improve my fitness routine – Zumba has been my go-to (but only) class at the gym throughout the last year which is great but I really need to include some strength-training exercises and running into my workout routine. It’s important to help build muscular strength and improve body tone and will help me handle normal physical tasks (like moving boxes, lifting groceries etc) more easily. And thanks to my new Walgreens Activity Tracker with Smartwatch technology, I can easily start tracking my daily activity. This activity tracker is water-resistant, Bluetooth enabled and is also compatible with your smartphone/tablet.
Another goal of mine is to drink more water daily – at home as well as at gym and the Contigo Autoseal Grace Water Bottle will make it easier to keep this resolution. This BPA-free water bottle has an easy-to-grip, ergonomic handle and features a one-touch Autoseal lid that automatically seals between sips yo eliminates spills and leaks.
Get more creative with my Makeup and Hair – As a beauty blogger, I constantly try new products but I feel like I haven’t been very good at experimenting with new makeup looks and techniques. I like having fun with makeup but usually stick to my tried and tested shades and products. This year, I have promised myself that I will dare to wear bold colors like hot pink or red lipstick more often and also try my hand at some new techniques such as how to create ombré lips and create different eyeliner shapes.
And when it comes to experimenting with my hair, it’s even worse! I feel like I am stuck in a hair rut and I am tired of it. On days when I feel like doing something fancy, I just go for a simple updo but I rarely do anything else to it. I just don’t know how. It’s time for me to become more adventurous with my hair and learn some stylish updos and braids. That’s gonna take a while but I really want to!
Floss daily – I am so embarrased to admit that I have been a lazy bee when it comes to flossing. At my last visit to the dentist, he asked me if I have been flossing regularly and even though I knew he could probably tell, I awkwardly lied about it (please tell me I am not the only one who does that kind of silly things!) Anyways, this year I have promised myself not to let that happen again so flossing will be a part of my daily routine….it’s just a matter of 2 minutes after all! Another thing that will help me get a bright & confident smile is the Crest 3D White Arctic Fresh toothpaste and Whitestrips that I have just started using!
Quit Nail Biting – I’ve had this pesky little habit of nail biting since childhood but I finally managed to get rid of it a few years ago. But recently I’ve had that urge again and often find myself picking at my nails especially when I’m stressed out. I hate it and really want to keep my nails in good shape.
