I definitely didn’t need to purchase another sunscreen, but after hearing dermatologist Dr. Dray rave about the new CeraVe Invisible Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 in her YouTube video recently, I simply couldn’t help myself. I admit I was influenced, and I had to try it.
Was it really a fabulous find for me as well? Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of this sunscreen!
First, let’s dive a little deeper into the details of the formula…
CeraVe Invisible Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 is described as a weightless, mineral-based sunscreen that provides broad-spectrum protection from UV rays while helping to restore your skin barrier. Formulated with miner-ALL technology, this mineral sunscreen is suitable for all skin types and tones—even sensitive and acne-prone skin—and has an invisible finish, even on beards.
Ingredient-wise, it’s made with zinc oxide (15.35%) and titanium oxide (2.66%) to protect against UVA and UVB rays, as well as three essential ceramides, soothing Niacinamide, hydrating glycerin and Panthenol. Furthermore, this multitasking mineral face sunscreen also contains MVE technology to provide sustained release of moisturizing ingredients for long-lasting hydration, which is key to maintain a healthy skin barrier.
CeraVe Invisible Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 Review
My favorite aspect of this mineral sunscreen is its texture: lightweight fluid formula that’s easy to spread and blend. It applies very smoothly and feels hydrating without being greasy. It absorbs quickly and dries down to a natural, shine-free finish without any white cast. The finish is not matte but also not dewy — it just gives my skin a healthy, hydrated look. And it feels nearly undetectable on the skin after it absorbs, you’ll forget you’re wearing sunscreen!
Because it’s so lightweight, I can easily apply multiple layers to make sure I am using the recommended amount of 1/4 teaspoon (or a nickel-sized dollop) sunscreen on my face and neck to get proper protection, without it feeling heavy or clogging my pores. Also, I appreciate that it doesn’t sting or irritate the skin around my eyes. I have very sensitive eyes and all the chemical sunscreens tend to cause stinging around my eyes.
I wear this sunscreen on its own a lot for no-makeup days, but it also works well as a base for makeup. And I did not experience any pilling (those little white balls that can appear on the skin, none of that happens with this one! ) Also, there is no typical sunscreen scent, the formula is fragrance-free. What’s even better is the price — at just $15.99, it comes with an affordable price tag!
Does the CeraVe Invisible Mineral Sunscreen leave a white cast?
After using it for a couple of weeks, I can honestly say that it doesn’t leave any white cast on my light-medium skin tone. However, I am not sure how this sunscreen fares on darker skin tones.
According to CeraVe, this sunscreen has an invisible finish and leaves NO white cast on all skin tones, including dark skin tones…that’s a big claim for sure!
But I can’t attest to this claim. Personally, I feel that this mineral sunscreen is probably one of the most invisible mineral sunscreens (non-tinted) I’ve tried. But that may not be the case for those with deeper skin tones and it might leave a low to minimal white cast on your face depending on your skin tone.
Bottom Line
CeraVe Invisible Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 is a winner all around for me! It ticks all the right boxes in terms of texture, feel and finish while providing broad-spectrum UV protection. Not only does it blend seamlessly into my skin without leaving a white cast, but it also hydrates and supports the skin barrier with ceramides and niacinamide. Not to mention, I can snag it for under $16!
If you are looking for a minimal to NO white cast mineral sunscreen, this one definitely deserves to be on your beauty radar! And the fragrance-free formula is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone.
