Anti-Aging Supercharged: Paula’s Choice RESIST Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum

Jul 17, 2012 by

Let me introduce you today to my latest skincare favorite from Paula’s Choice – RESIST Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum. It is a powerful night treatment designed to improve the appearance of aging skin and help sun-damaged skin repair itself.

Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol (silicone slip agents/suspending agents), Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate (skin-conditioning agent), Dicaprylyl Carbonate (emollient), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (skin-repairing ingredient), Phenyl Trimethicone (silicone slip agent), Squalane (emollient), Bisabolol (anti-irritant), Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (stabilized vitamin C/antioxidant), Retinol (cell-communicating ingredient/antioxidant), Tocotrienols (vitamin E-based antioxidant), Tocopherol (vitamin E/antioxidant), Lecithin (cell-communicating ingredient), Laminaria Ochroleuca (Kelp) Extract (anti-irritant), Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Oil (anti-irritant), Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil (skin-repairing ingredient), Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate (licorice-derived anti-irritant), Hexylene Glycol (slip agent), Caprylyl Glycol (emollient), Ethylhexylglycerin (skin-conditioning agent), Phenoxyethanol (preservative).

Paula’s Choice RESIST Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum claims to be a highly effective yet non-irritating retinol formula for even the most sensitive skin. So, you’re getting all of the benefits of retinol without bothersome side effects such as redness or flaking. And after using this serum for about a month now, I can honestly say that’s absolutely true!

Paula’s Choice RESIST Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum

First off, this retinol serum is packaged in an opaque, airtight pump bottle which is not only convenient to use but also ensures the stability and efficacy of the formula. The product is recommended as a night-time treatment to be applied on clean skin before moisturizing (or use alone). Even though my skin is on the drier side of the spectrum, I prefer not to use any additional moisturizer after this serum since the consistency is a bit creamy (but not greasy), it has a silky feel going on the skin and absorbs quickly to leave my skin hydrated for the night. I might need to follow with a moisturizer in wintertime but the serum alone is good enough in these summer months. That said, those with very oily skin may not like the emollient texture.

I started with using the serum every other night and then switched to every night after first two weeks. Now, I do not have super sensitive skin but this is actually the first skincare product with retinol as the main ingredient that I was able to use every night with absolutely no irritation or flaking. In fact, I have also been using it around the eyes without any problem. However, I wouldn’t recommend applying the product more than once a day especially if you are fairly new to retinol to avoid increased sensitivity to sun. And of course, do not forget your SPF (30 or higher) every morning when using this serum!

As for the results, I don’t have much in the way of wrinkles yet but I can surely say that it has been keeping my skin really smooth and I have also noticed an improvement in my skin tone. It also seems to have helped in reducing the breakouts that I have been experiencing lately.

Overall, I would highly recommend the RESIST Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum to anyone looking for a quality retinol product, but without a hefty price tag. Its gentle, emollient formula is perfect for those with sensitive skin like mine or who are just starting with retinol in their skincare regimen (begin with applying every other day and let your skin gradually acclimate to it). Also, in addition to its targeted retinol formula, this serum also treats skin to a range of antioxidants, repairing ingredients, and anti-irritants…..what’s not to love?

At $29.95 for 1 oz, this ant-aging serum is totally worth picking up! Needless to say, it’s a definite re-purchase for me. Available at Paulaschoice.com

  1. I have oily skin and I’m also concerned with wrinkle prevention since I’m in my late 30s now. I wonder if this product will solve my double dilemma. Retinol is good for oily skin though. For a serum, $29.95 isn’t bad. I’ll check out the website.

Kath – I think you will like it! The texture is def creamier than typical serums but you just need to smooth a few drops on your face and neck. And since the price is very reasonable, it’s worth checking out!

I love Paula’s Choice Retinol Serum and would use this in a heartbeat if I didn’t use Retin-A. As you are young, I would recommend using this on the backs of your hands, neck and your chests. Paula also makes a great Hand Cream SPF 30 w/antioxidants. Hands are usually overlooked and show age quickly.

The price is cheap enough and in 10 years you’ll be glad you did.

JennB _ I agree with you! I try to take care and cover up my hands with sunscreen as much as possible but it’s always good to get a reminder so thanks for your comment!

  5. I absolutely positively love this! I’ve been using it since January or February of this year and think it’s great. I am a huge convert to the Paula’s Choice products.

  7. I was really interested to read that the serum is the first product containing retinol that you have been able to use without problems. This has encouraged me to try it as well because up till now, I have not found a retinol product that does not cause my skin to flake – thank you!
