During Fall and winter, I like to wear smoky eye makeup to amp up the drama. However, I tend to shy away from dark browns and blacks due to my extremely fair skintone. One of my go-to eye makeup routines for Fall is the burnt orange and brown smoky eye. As the colors are fairly neutral and light, it doesn’t have the severe raccoon eye effect which the black smoky eye sometimes has. Also, the burnt orange color adds an unexpected pop of color that makes this look a little bit more fun and whimsical than the traditional smoky eye.
Step 1
Before I begin to apply the eye shadow, it is important to first use an eye primer. This will make the application a lot easier and will also keep your color on for a longer period of time. In my case, I used Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin and applied it all over my eyelid, including the brow bone and inner corners.
Then, take a wide eye shadow brush and apply a matte tangerine all over your eyelid from the lash line into the crease. All of the shadows I used in this tutorial are from the e.l.f. Endless Eyes Pro Eyeshadow Palette.
Step 2
Then, use an eye shadow brush to apply a shimmering, burnt orange color from the middle of your eyelid all the way to the outer corner. Also, use an angled eye shadow brush to smudge the color into your crease.
Step 3
Take an angled eye shadow brush and use it to apply a shimmering dark brown color in a V shape in the outer corner of your eye. Next, smudge the color so the V is filled in. Also apply this color into your outer crease.
To add drama, use an angled eyeliner brush and apply the same dark brown color on your lower lash line. Make sure that it looks a bit smudgy; you don’t want a defined line.
Step 4
To finish the look, I applied a shimmering gold color to the inner corner of my eye and on my brow bone. I also applied black mascara to both upper and lower lashes.
With this eye makeup, I usually wear a dusting of bronzer and a nude lipstick to finish the look. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
