Okay, so this post is (totally) off topic but I just felt like taking a break from our usual beauty chit-chat today and talk about something different. As you can make out from the title, I’m talking about pet peeves.
Everyone has little things that get on their nerves. Maybe it drives you nuts when people talk too loudly on their cell phones or let their hyper kids run all over the place at a restaurant or when someone cuts in line. When those (usually) harmless, minor habits that people have, annoy you to a greater degree than it probably should.
What’s my biggest pet peeve? It’s actually related to my health. Anyone who knows me is aware that I have been dealing with gastro problems since last four years. And a few months ago, I was finally diagnosed with non-celiac gluten sensitivity. I am also off any dairy products now because my body ‘perceives’ them as similar to gluten-containing foods.
As if the gastro trouble, mood swings weren’t enough, it’s frustrating when people say things like “Wow, I could never give up bread (or cake/pizza etc). You’re missing out! ” or “You need to gain some weight, you look way too skinny” Once, I even had somebody say “That’s a great problem to have! (for weight loss)
Please keep in mind that I don’t mean to bring anybody down but I just wish people would understand that I am not “going gluten-free because it’s totally in right now” and be a little more considerate. It’s really hard anyways to give up on all those yummy foods that I have savored all my life and now they are harmful for my body. I am not looking for any sympathy from anyone but just a little positivity would be nice!
On the plus side, I have quite a few friends who are very encouraging and make sure I don’t feel “out of place” in anyways when I am hanging out with them. And I am really thankful to have them around!
Your turn. What little habit makes your blood boil? What behavior gets under your skin? Share with me in the comments section below…

I feel like anyone who makes those comments to you are just expressing their jealousy in a passive-aggressive way… it’s quite a common thing for girls to do, ha.
In terms of beauty pet peeves, one of mine is watching a beauty video on YT where the girl has fairly good, blemish-free skin, with minimal redness and watching her pile on the foundation for a thick, full-coverage finish. I don’t understand it and I can’t imagine it looking good in real life! Along the same vein is when I watch beauty “gurus” who have horrible techniques and clearly don’t know what they’re doing or talking about… I never comment, I just click out of the video… but it’s incredibly cringe-inducing and definitely a pet peeve of mine.
Whew! Glad to get that off my chest. 😉

Tell me about it!!! Three weeks ago I was diagnosed with allergies to wheat, gluten, dairy, eggs, peanuts, and rye, but I’ve been completely off dairy since January. It’s been so hard and I feel like no one understands! I had a friend tell me that it would be fun to test my dairy allergy by making two batches of brownies and then secretly testing me. Geez, at least I have a stupid piece of paper to prove it to people now.

I totally agree! I had to go without gluten for a number of years while my GI tract healed (I’m ok with gluten now), but I heard quite a few annoying comments in my day. I actually blogged about it on my blog too! haha

Insensitive comments about someone else’s body are never welcome. After years of desperately trying to start a family, I’ve heard it all, and I’ve heard them all multiple times – “why don’t you just adopt?” and “If you just stopped trying so hard, it would happen!” and “You don’t understand love until you have a child.” and “It must be nice to have so much freedom!”, and my personal favorite – “whose fault is it, yours or his?”
Unfortunately, there will always be inappropriate comments, and I just have a standard, snarky-said-in-a-kind-voice answer for each of these hurtful remarks.

i totally understand you! i have gluten entheropathy, it is a bit easier to deal with than celiac disease, but i don’t eat any grains. i was diagnosed about 5 years ago, and at that time in russia, in my small town, no one even heard about gluten-free diet. in my case, all i needed to do was to say that this diet was prescribed by a doctor and is good for my health, it made people if not understand, but at least calm down.
now to my biggest pet peeve. i don’t like, when i’m told i’m underweight. esp by overweight people. i feel good, i like how i look, i have enough energy, i am healthy, so why do i need to gain weight? to be more like them? they should learn unconditional love and acceptance, imo
i also started raw food diet over a year ago, ant those people who tell me i’m too skinny got a new theme for their… umm, i would call it “jokes”. i think, they just can’t understand, how can someone not want a piece of cake or grilled chicken. i am not angry at them, because they are not cruel, they just don’t understand.

I can totally relate to this! I’m also (mostly) gluten free. I haven’t been formally diagnosed but I feel soooo much better when I cut it out. I get these same kinds of comments when I tell people. So annoying.

Ami – Thanks for your thoughtful comment! And you know actually that’s one of my beauty pet peeves too and sometimes it’s just more funny than annoying.

Erin – I know how hard it is to be ‘off’ so many foods. And yeah, sometimes even I feel like no one understands and it’s even worse when these are people you actually care about. You take care….and thanks for dropping by!

Cori – I would love to read your blog post! Do leave me a comment with a link to it…

Essy – Wow…those are some really hurtful comments! Can’t believe how insensitive some people can be. You take care and thanks so much for sharing your story!

Endless summer – That’s exactly how I feel when I’m told I’m underweight! I love how positive you are and totally agree that these are not “bad” people, they just don’t understand. Thanks for your thoughtful comment!

I understand. My pet peeve is when people say that they “paint” their nails. UGH! You paint a house. You “polish” your nails. But as a blogger who mostly posts about nail polish, I just had to learn to overlook it. But I will admit every time I read/hear it, I cringe just a little. Oh well. If that is my only issue, I can live with it. LOL!
