1. If you’re washing your hands frequently to avoid catching a cold or the flu, it could sap the natural oils in your skin thus leaving your hands so dehydrated that they can crack or peel. Be sure to choose a mild soap, use warm not hot water, pat your hands dry and apply a hand cream right away. If you’ve already got severely dry hands or you have to wash your hands a dozen or more times a day, substitute a hand-sanitizing gel for some of the soap-and-water sessions.

2. Invest in a great moisturizer for your face and slather it on in the morning and every night. For extra dry skin, choose an emollient, rich moisturizer with ingredients like cocoa or shea butter, beeswax, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, sorbitol, or lactic acid. Along with keeping a tube of your favorite moisturizer in your bathroom, stow smaller sizes in your purse and on your desk so application becomes a habit.

3. For intensive hydration, Aquaphor is always a reliable standby! Slather on at bedtime, slip on a pair of cotton gloves or socks, and keep on overnight for hydrated, happy feet and hands!

4. To avoid the ruddiness that often comes with cooler temperatures, exfoliation is the key. Just don’t over-exfoliate. Stick to about twice a week to slough away dead skin cells, flakes or whatever else is stealing your glow. Too much in the way of exfoliation can irritate your skin.
