Do you struggle with thinning hair, want to grow out a short style, or just want thicker & healthier locks? If you have ever experienced hair loss, you know the struggle is real! Thinning hair is a really common problem that affects both men & women and is just as frustrating as fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. It’s actually more common among women than you might think. In fact, 1 in 3 women experience hair loss and thinning in their lifetime.
Contrary to common belief, the most common reason for thinning hair in women is hereditary hair loss or androgenetic alopecia (AGA) that can start as early as your 20s, but becomes more common in the 30s and 40s. It’s a condition that causes changes to your hair follicles due to genetics, hormonal imbalance, and the aging process.
Plus, there are several things that most of us do on a daily basis that either causes or accentuates hair loss. Some of the main culprits are pulling the hair back too tightly in braids or ponytails, excessive heat syling/straightening, wrapping your hair tightly with a towel and harsh chemicals (in hair colors) that can cause hair to fall out. I admit I am guilty of these a well! I was blessed to be born with thick hair that grew quickly but now my hair has lost its former glory and they are no longer as soft, full & healthy they used to be.
In addition to thinning, as we age our hair also changes in color and texture. There are 4 main signs of aging hair: loss of pigment (one of my biggest woes!), decrease in moisture and oil production (which I have definitely noticed), changes in texture and inactive follicles resulting in thinning and loss of density.
I got a chance to pick the brain of celebrity stylist Jill Crosby to get some styling tips for thinning hair and she offered some great advice! She suggested that creating texture and volume using styling products like mousse, thickening sprays volumizing dry shampoos is one of the easiest ways to give your hair a fuller appearance. Cut and color are also great tools to help create dimension and enhance the hair you have. Often times, shorter hair styles work best and can help to provide added fullness. So don’t be shy to talk about your concerns and work with your stylist to find the best look for your hair type.
She also recommended to lower the tempature on your hot tools if you are addicted to your flat iron, curling iron or blow dryer. Thinner hair is much more compliant to heat and as such, doesn’t need as much to bend and style. It’s hard to avoid heat styling completely butdon’t forget to use a heat protectant spray before you blow dry or heat style…every single time!
All of the above styling tips & tricks definitely help but if you are looking for a long-term solution for thinning hair and hereditary hair loss, a topical treatment like Women’s ROGAINE® Foam is the way to go. Specifically made for women, it is the first and only FDA-approved once daily treatment with 5% minoxidil proven to regrow hair. In fact, Women’s ROGAINE® Foam is clinically proven to regrow hair in 81%* of women with new hairs growing in up to 48%** thicker than before. Unlike cosmetic thickeners which just coat hair and temporarily mask the issue, Women’s ROGAINE® foam helps reactivate hair follicles and stimulate hair regrowth to prevent further thinning.
With a convenient, lightweight foam formula, Women’s ROGAINE® Foam is easy to apply just once a day and can be used in the morning or evening. I like how it fits easily into my beauty routine and is safe to use on my color treated and chemically processed hair. Also, it doesn’t interfere with styling and can be used with any of your styling products. It’s never too late to start but early treatment is key to preventing more hair loss and to regrow thicker hair.
If you are also experiencing thinning or hair loss due to hereditary hair loss, I’d recommend you try out Women’s ROGAINE® Foam and give your hair the volume it deserves! Not only that, you can also get a $10 rebate on Women’s ROGAINE® Foam here.
