CVS’s exclusive premium-quality cosmetics brand, Makeup Academy has expanded its collection to include eye makeup and brow products, and is also introducing new lip butters (which I will be reviewing soon). For those of you who may not be familiar with MUA, its a very popular UK brand known for its affordable & high quality makeup products. The brand was launched exclusively in CVS last year and as far as I know the MUA products here in US are different than those available in the UK.
MUA has introduced three new eyeshadow palettes – Nude Palette, Metallic Palette and Smoky Palette. Each of these palettes retail for $14 at CVS and contain 10 different eyeshadow shades. Today I have the MUA Metallic Eye Shadow Palette to show you.
The first thing that I love about this palette is the assortment of beautiful, rich gem tones. The palette comes in a black plastic case, nothing fancy but decent enough for a drugstore product. The eyshadow pans are a good size as compared to similar drugstore palettes and inside you will also find an eyeshadow brush. This is my first time trying out the MUA eyeshadows and I must say I am pretty impressed with the quality!
I love how nicely pigmented these eyeshadows are and there isn’t a single shade in the palette that disappoints. You can easily build them up to maximum pigmentation for a beautifully rich color payoff. That said, I always use an eyeshadow primer underneath any eyeshadow and would recommend you the same to help them last longer. The texture is also really smooth and great for blending. The green and maroon/auburn shade in the top row and the eggplant shade in the bottom row are my favorites. Here are the swatches :
This is not a very versatile palette as there are not many light/softer shades and there are no mattes either (given it’s called a metallic palette). The deeper shades have a sheen-y metallic sort of finish and the 2 lighter shades (taupe and white) have more of a satin finish so there are no completely matte shades which I know some of you may not like. However, I think this is a great pick for anyone who wants an affordable eyeshadow palette with a variety of vibrant, rich shades to spice up their makeup look for fall/winter!
