I’ve always had a thing for shiny, moist lipsticks and never really liked anything matte but lately I find myself gravitating more towards matte lippies. Maybe it’s the recent matte liquid lipstick craze that got me on board with the matte madness!
Whatever the reason is, now that I am all for #teammatte, there have been quite a few matte additions to my not-so-little lipstick collection! And my latest entry is the new Clinique Pop Matte Lip Colour + Primer…

For my dry lips, I need something that provides the dry look of a matte without any uncomfortable dryness. And Clinique Pop Matte Lip Colour + Primer fits the bill perfectly! I love how creamy and pigmented the formula is. It’s also very lightweight and goes on really smooth with a soft matte finish that’s anything but flat! These lipsticks usually don’t leave my pout feeling dried out but on those days when my lips are really dry or flaky, I make sure to exfoliate with this DIY moisturizing lip scrub before applying.
The color payoff is excellent as I don’t have to put on more than two layers to get a vibrant effect and that goes for all these shades I have. The shades I tried are Cute Pop (mauve-ish plum), Peony Pop (light pink nude), Mod Pop (bright blue pink), Blushing Pop (mid-tone warm nude) and Rose Pop (rich rosy pink).
As for the longevity, the color holds up pretty well (around 5 hours) if I am not eating or drinking much. However, it fades quite a bit after I’ve had my two cups of tea, and it’s almost completely gone after lunch. So, the formula doesn’t live up to the 8-hour wear promise but the good news is that the color fades evenly and isn’t blotchy or feathered, and it’s easy to just apply another swipe when it needs a refresh.
I am loving all the shades but my favorites are Blushing Pop and Rose Pop. A good flattering nude lipstick can be hard to find, but Blushing Pop was love at first swipe for me! It has quickly become my go-to nude lip color and goes with whatever I’m wearing or however my makeup is done. And whenever I am in the mood for a bright pop of color, Rose Pop brings on the flirty vibes! Here are the swatches:

Overall, color me impressed with the new Clinique Pop Matte Lip Colour + Primer! This matte is where it’s at, formulated to perk your pout with creamy, silky-suede color. Even if you are a matte hater, it’s delightful comfy formula can change your mind…pick up a shade or two ($18.50 each) at Sephora, Ulta or Nordstrom.
