Although there is no shortage of options when it comes to nude eyeshadow palettes, it can be hard to find a great neutral palette that ticks all the right boxes…and at a price that’s nice! Of course, being the drugstore beauty babe I am, I have tried quite a few (and some of them completely missed the mark for me!)
Not that I need to add any more eyeshadow palettes to my ever growing makeup arsenal, it’s hard to resist the allure of a brand new nude palette at the drugstore! Case in point : the new Maybelline 24K Nudes Eyeshadow Palette. And one look at this teaser photo below on Maybelline’s Facebook page, I was sold!
Maybelline 24K Nudes Eyeshadow Palette features 12 shades that are supposedly infused with metallic gold pigments. From sparkling gold and shimmering nude to glittering smoke and sparkling aubergine, this palette is all about jewel-toned hues (that are right up my alley!) in satin and shimmer finishes. The palette also features 3 matte shades.
The packaging of the new 24k Nudes palette is similar to previous Maybelline Nudes palettes, except for the outer gold color. It comes with a double-ended sponge-tip applicator but there’s no mirror inside. Now let’s get talking about the shades….
The eyeshadow formula seems to vary between the shades. The shimmer shades are a little more inconsistent, with most of them being silky smooth and easy to blend without any fallout (especially the gold shade in top row and bronze shade in the bottom row) while a couple of them seem to be overloaded with shimmer and can have quite a bit of fallout (like the sparkling black and blackish green shade in the bottom row).
I really like the satiny plummy purple shade in the bottom row but it’s not as pigmented as I’d like…it’s not sheer either and can be built up to a greater opacity. An eyeshadow primer is definitely a must with this palette! The ones I found too sheer are the pinky champagne (#1 shade top row), beige matte (#5 in top row) and pinkish white (#1 in bottom row).
In fact, I couldn’t get the #5 shade (beige) to show up well in my swatches and that’s why it’s missing in the pic below. The matte shades can be slightly patchy, but not problematic and blend pretty easily. The gold is undoubtedly the standout color in this palette with beautiful rich pigmentation and texture…wish they had one more golden shade in there!
Here are the swatches…
Bottom Line
Overall, I have mixed feelings about Maybelline 24K Nudes Eyeshadow Palette. I like the well-rounded color selection with beautiful jewel toned neutral hues but the eyeshadow formula leaves a little something to be desired. The quality is definitely better than the previous Maybelline Nudes palettes though! While this palette is not an absolute must-have, it’s surely one of the better options among the current crop of drugstore eyeshadow palettes…and it’s under $10!
Maybelline 24K Nudes Eyeshadow Palette ($9.99) is available now at drugstores nationwide. Pick it up from Target, Ulta or Amazon.com
