As somebody who spends an alarmingly large amount of time trying out (and compulsively hoarding) beauty products, I just can’t help myself sharing with you the latest & greatest in the beauty world! And today I am excited to report the news about a new, trendy cool and affordable Swiss beauty brand that just popped up at Ulta!
Enter Bronx Colors, a new makeup line with edgy and stylish products that offer great quality at an affordable price. The Swiss brand recently hit the U.S. market exclusively at ulta.com with an impressive lineup of more than 65 products in a wide color range that cater to all skin tones, from fair to dark. They even have three products made just for men!
Did I mention that prices start from $3.50, and most of the products clock in around $12-15 or under! That’s a price tag we can easily get behind. And they are cruelty-free. I tried out a few products from the new cosmetic line…read on to get all the deets!
Bronx Colors Legendary lipstick ($9.50)
With a luxuriously creamy yet lightweight texture that glides on effortlessly and rich, opaque color payoff with satin finish, this lipstick is pure pleasure to wear! Love how hydrating it feels on my dry lips. The quality here rivals a high-end lipstick, both in terms of creaminess and pigment power. Color me impressed! It’s not very long-lasting but if an ultra-creamy-and- pigmented pout perfector is what you’re after, this one is sure to please…and it’s under $10!
It comes in 8 high-impact colors, from nude to bolds hues like Hot Red and Aubergine! The ones I have are Nutmeg (warm brownish-pink nude), Cinnamon (orange red) and Burgundy. I have a thing for nude lipsticks and Nutmeg was love at first swipe….it’s the perfect nude lipstick for medium skin tones! And when I want to glam it up for a night out on the town, Burgundy is the one I reach for! Here are the swatches…
Bronx Colors Torpedo Kohl Shadow & Eyeliner Stick ($6.99)
OMG! This is an amazing eyeliner that makes my brown eyes pop! It adds a whole lot of drama for a seriously sizzling look! The formula is very creamy, very slick with incredibly smooth application, never even the slightest tug…a single pass is all you need for a fully opaque line. And the same thing goes for waterline too, intense color in one go!
The Black shade is the blackest black, a rich & intense black that’s as dark as night. For me, this Bronx Colors Kohl eyeliner is a spot on dupe for Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Perversion, under $7! I haven’t come across anything else that can compete with the UD favorite! And the purple shade is just as gorgeous.
Because of its rich black inky-ness, I love to use this kohl liner mostly on my waterline as it wears long and strong giving me a good 7-9 hours wear with minor fading. Not only that, the color also smudges and blends out easily for the perfect smoky eye (just make sure to use a primer to avoid creasing or migrating!)
With all that being said, this product does have a few flaws. First off, its ultra-creamy softness translates into a bit of a smeary effect, especially on the waterline. The color tends to migrate south and settle into the fine creases under my eyes. However, a light dusting of translucent powder under my lash line (before applying the liner) helps a lot to prevent any smearing.
Another thing worth a mention is that it’s hard to get a sleek, thin line after a few times of using the product because the tapered conical tip doesn’t remain as precisely pointed. I really wish there was some way to sharpen it back! None the less, if you love a bold and dramatic eyeliner, this one is a must-have in your makeup arsenal, especially the Black shade!
Bronx Colors Studioline HD TV Foundation ($14.99)
This a matte finish foundation with buildable medium coverage. Texture-wise, the formula is very smooth, lightweight and easy to blend. On my dry skin, the coverage is quite long-lasting, with only minor fading by the end of the day.
As I said, the finish is matte and looks natural without a cakey, flat look but I prefer a subtle dewiness when it comes to foundations. So, I like to use a hydrating primer before applying this foundation and it gives me a satiny, slightly dewy finish. The shade I got is Medium Beige and it turned out to a nearly perfect match for light-medium skin tone.
Bronx Colors Super Single Shadow ($5.50)
These eyeshadow singles have a smooth texture that glides on easily with a great color payoff that’s easy to build up. The pigment-packed shade range offers a nice variety with 12 colors from everyday neutrals to deep purple and black.
The shades I have are Golden Olive, Taupe, and Black Purple. My favorite is the Taupe because it’s a well-pigmented and very wearable shade and makes for a great ‘one eyeshadow’ look. Also, it reminds me of MAC Satin Taupe! Although a bit similar, it doesn’t seem to be a dupe for Satin Taupe (wish I could compare them side by side right now but I hit pan on my MAC shadow and haven’t repurchased yet!)
Golden Olive is beautiful too and I like how buildable the color is, so it’s easy to keep it subtle or amp it up with more pigment. As for the Black Purple, it looks a deep purple in the pan but once applied it’s much more black than purple. It has a more powdery texture than other shades but thankfully there are no major fallout issues. Here are the swatches below….
These budget-friendly beauty buys from Bronx Colors prove that great makeup doesn’t have to cost a fortune! As of now, Ulta Beauty is carrying 68 Bronx Colors products but the brand has way more to offer (about 300+ products) that you can check out at bronxcolors.com. Hopefully, Ulta will add on more items in the months to come!
