The importance of using sunscreen year-round cannot be stressed enough, but in the summer it’s super important. With the sun’s harmful rays in full effect, providing the face with extra SPF protection is key if you want to stave off wrinkles, dark marks, and you know, skin cancer. That’s where makeup with SPF comes in!
NEW updated post 2021— Best Foundations With SPF: Drugstore to High-End (for every skin type)
Whether you’re trying to hide dark spots or boost a dull complexion, there are plenty of multitasking makeup products that beautify your complexion while serving up extra SPF.
As great as makeup infused with sunscreen is, it should never be used as your only source of sun protection. Think applying a makeup product containing SPF 30 gives you the same level of protection as smoothing on a sunscreen containing SPF 30? Think again!
You should NOT skip actual sunscreen…never! Makeup with SPF only gives you extra protection, covering spots you may have missed on your face with sunscreen.
Best Drugstore Makeup with SPF
From foundations and tinted moisturizers to setting powders, here are the best drugstore makeup products with sunscreen that make it easy to squeeze in extra SPF to every step of your beauty routine!
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Aging Perfector SPF 20 ($11.99)
In addition to protecting your skin from damaging UV rays, this tinted moisturizer with SPF provides blendable, natural-looking light coverage to even your skin tone with a satin finish. Enriched with anti-aging retinol and a good mix of antioxidants plus broad-spectrum SPF 20, the lightweight moisturizing formula is perfect for everyday use.
Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free All-in-1 ABC Cushion Foundation SPF 50 ($16.99)
Lightweight and easy to apply, I think this is the best drugstore foundation with SPF! It blends smoothly and provides medium coverage with a natural looking matte finish. It’s also fragrance-free (great for sensitive skin) and wears well throughout the day without fading. And it gets bonus points for cute packaging!
Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 ($9.79)
This budget-friendly foundation offers natural-looking buildable medium coverage plus mineral-based sunscreen (titanium dioxide) to help ward off sun damage. The coverage lasts really well through the average office day—just don’t count on it to withstand sweat and humidity as the claims promise!
MISSHA M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF42 PA+++ ($22)
Aside from broad-spectrum UV protection, this lightweight and silky-smooth BB cream conceals imperfections and provides excellent coverage with added skin care benefits. Key ingredients include soothing Chamomile and Rosemary Extract and Ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid that provides a healthy dose of hydration.
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Compact Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 55 ($12)
This lightweight cream-to-powder foundation provides buildable medium to full coverage while protecting your skin from the sun’s aging rays. It’s my second favorite drugstore foundation with SPF!
Of course, you need to apply it liberally and evenly to get the full broad-spectrum sun protection it offers. The dermatologist-tested formula is also non-comedogenic which means it won’t clog pores.
Cetaphil Redness Relieving Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 20 Neutral Tint ($15)
There’s a lot to love about this new drugstore tinted moisturizer with SPF that’s lightly hydrating with a smooth matte finish. In fact, I have raved about it a few times already! It does a good job of covering up redness, discolorations, and evens out your skin tone beautifully while offering mineral-based broad-spectrum sun protection. Being fragrance-free, it’s a great option even for sensitive skin types.
Burt’s Bees BB Cream with SPF 15 ($9)
Somewhere between a lightweight foundation and a moisturizing face lotion, this antioxidant-rich BB Cream provides light to medium coverage along with broad spectrum sun protection from gentle mineral sunscreen agents. And did I mention the formula is 99% natural? Another great option for sensitive skin gals!
Physicians Formula Super BB All-in-1 Beauty Balm Powder SPF 30 ($10)
If you’re in search of a way to reapply sunscreen over makeup (which is needed after spending a long day outside), this silky pressed powder is just what you need! Not only does it take the hassle out of reapplying SPF throughout the day, it also sets your makeup and absorbs oily shine at the same time—win, win!
You can also use it on bare skin for touching up your SPF as needed. Its fragrance-free formula and mineral sunscreen actives are a plus for sensitive skin! This is actually a good cheaper alternative for Supergoop Invincible Setting Powder SPF 45
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Primer SPF 15 ($12.99)
Start your routine with a product that’s as good at warding off sun damage as it is at providing a smooth canvas for your makeup and make it last longer. This silky primer feels light with a smooth matte finish while loading your skin up with antioxidants plus broad spectrum SPF.
Almay Age Essentials Concealer SPF 20 ($6.45)
This twist-up stick concealer provides smooth, nearly full coverage to disguise dark circles plus an extra measure of broad-spectrum sun protection. The creamy texture applies and blends easily without too much slip and layers well over eye creams.
Babo Botanicals Sheer Lip Tint Conditioner SPF 15 Wild Rose ($9.95)
This 100% natural tinted lip balm packs a protective SPF punch with non-nano zinc oxide and titanium dioxide while adding a sheer pop of color with high shine! Infused with shea butter and antioxidants, it smoothes, softens and protects lips.
Revlon PhotoReady Insta-Fix Makeup SPF 20 ($10)
This twist-up stick foundation is perfect for touch-ups on the go while adding a protective layer of gentle mineral-based SPF 20. It offers light to medium coverage that conceals flaws without feeling heavy or greasy. Also, it doubles as a concealer with SPF for use around the eyes!
Physicians Formula Talc-Free Cushion Corrector + Primer Duo SPF 20 ($16.95)
This SPF infused color-correcting cushion compact helps counteract uneven skin tone with complementary colors. Use the lavender to combat dullness, peach to brighten your complexion, green to correct redness or yellow to mask dark circles. The sheer colors can be used before foundation or on their own to perk up your skin.
Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting BB Bronzer SPF 20 ($12)
This glow-boosting bronzer gives you a gorgeous sun-kissed look while adding a protective veil from UV damage. Toss this baby in your purse and touch up for protection and color all in one easy-to-use product!
e.l.f. Cosmetics Beauty Shield SPF 50 Skin Shielding Primer ($12)
This sunscreen-meets-primer is a must-have for anyone who prefers mineral SPF coverage like me! Infused with skin-loving antioxidants, the lightweight tinted primer goes on with a silky texture but still manages to feel breathable under its broad-spectrum SPF 50. It blends quickly, leaving skin smooth and ready for makeup application. The sheer tint is perfect for those with fair to medium skin tones but tends to leave a noticeable white cast on darker skin.
