Building a whole new makeup collection can be both exciting and fun. It gives you a chance to pick out items that will help you to feel more confident and put-together, allows you to be creative, and gives you the opportunity to highlight all your best features.
At the same time, when you’re starting from scratch trying to build a cohesive makeup collection, the cost can add up extremely fast. If you’re hoping to grab all the key pieces while sticking to a tight budget, here are some tips that can prove to be useful.
Start With a Must-Have List
A great place to start is with a must-have list. It can be very easy to be swayed by pretty, sparkly, luxurious looking items when in the store, so if you’ve got a list to work from at least it can help to ward off those unnecessary impulse purchases. As for what should be on the list, here are the basics that most collections include:
- Foundation
- Concealer
- Bronzer
- Highlighter
- Blush
- Eyeshadow palette (the colors have been pre-chosen to work well together)
- Eyeliner
- Mascara
- Lipstick
- Lipgloss
- Lipliner
Of course, you can add to the list, and have multiples of each item once you build that basic collection.
Shop for Multi-Functional Products
While the list above is meant to act as a blueprint package for a basic makeup collection, keep in mind that you can opt for multi-functional products and actually cut down on what you need. Take, for example, your foundation. If you get one that offers high coverage, it can also act as your concealer.
You can also use any eyeshadow as an eyeliner simply by using an eyeliner brush to apply it. There are also products that are meant to be used on lips and cheeks, giving you that trending monochromatic look and cutting down on the products you need.
Stick With Neutrals to Get Started With
As for the color scheme, when you are first building your collection it’s usually best to stick to neutrals in terms of your blush, eyeshadow and lipsticks. Neutrals will be the most versatile in that they work with any color of clothing you may be wearing, are perfect for all seasons, and can be kept basic and simple or applied in a more dramatic way for evening looks.
Once you’ve built up that basic collection then you can add a pop of color with a bright lipstick for example, or perhaps a couple of single shadows in a few different bright colors.
Wait for Sales
One of the greatest things about drugstore makeup is that these stores typically run sales all the time. Usually you don’t need to pay full price for an item, instead, just wait and watch for it to go on sale. It’s not unusual to get a percentage off, BOGO offers, and even VIP or loyalty program offerings that you can apply to the products.
Look for Ways to Score Free Makeup
Did you also know that you can find ways to get free makeup samples and even full-sized products? It’s not hard to find sites offering free makeup, take Just Freebies as a great example. At any given time, you can visit the Just Freebies site and find all kinds of incredible offers that provide you with actual products or coupons for free products. And it’s not just drugstore items you’ll find, there are even high-end stores and brands listed on the site!
Just be sure that you are checking the website on a regular basis as the offers are always changing, so you never know what each day will bring.
These tips will make it easy for you to build the perfect budget-friendly makeup collection!
