Dr Brandt Liquid Sun Shield is a new 100% mineral sunscreen that defends against UVA and UVB rays with a broad-spectrum SPF 50, and also provides protection from harmful HEV/Blue Light from devices, infrared radiation, and pollution.
Formulated for all skin types, this sunscreen is non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores), hypoallergenic, tested on sensitive skin, reef-safe and vegan.
I have a long checklist when it comes to a great sunscreen – it needs to block the sun with an all-mineral Zinc Oxide based formula for broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection, it can’t leave a white cast or greasy residue, it needs to feel beautiful on its own and beneath makeup and
it also needs to nourish/care for the skin as it protects it from UV rays with an SPF factor 30 or higher.
The new Dr Brandt Liquid Sun Shield promises all the above, plus brightening skincare benefits! So, I was pretty excited to try out this new sunscreen. Keep reading for my thoughts and whether or not it’s worth the $65 price point.
Product Description
The fight against future skin damage just got easier with Dr. Brandt Liquid Sun Shield! This lightweight 100% mineral sunscreen is formulated with non-Nano zinc oxide, meaning the particles are not small enough to be absorbed into the bloodstream. Instead, they safely form a protective shield on the skin’s surface, defending against UVA/UVB rays and the effects of photo aging with a broad-spectrum SPF 50.
Like damage control in a bottle, these do-it-all mineral sunscreen drops keep skin on a clear path to a bright future.

INGREDIENTS
Zinc Oxide 17%, Water, Isododecane, Polyglyceryl-6 Polyricinoleate, Propanediol, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Isoamyl Laurate, Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate, Polyglyceryl-10 Dioleate, Lecithin, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Ectoin, Polymethylsilesquioxane, Polysilicone-11, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Propylene Carbonate, Aminomethyl Propanol, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin, Polysorbate 20, Sclareolide, Tocopheryl Acetate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethiconol, Linalool, Linalyl Acetate, Plankton Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Ascorbate, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Tocopherol.
Texture-wise, Dr Brandt Liquid Sun Shield has a lightweight emulsion-like texture that glides on my skin with a silky feel. Once it’s all worked in, it leaves my skin looking smooth with a subtle dewy glow and NO white cast at all (despite the 17% zinc oxide formulation)
On my dry skin, the initial dewiness goes away after about half an hour or so and it looks more like a satin finish. Those with combination to oily skin might find the finish of this sunscreen slightly shiny but if you have normal to dry skin like me, most likely you will love it as much as I do (unless you prefer a matte finish SPF formula!)
The formula is pretty hydrating so I don’t even need to wear a moisturizer underneath it, now that the weather is getting warmer. It gives my dry skin that healthy glow and hydration it needs, without being heavy, greasy or tacky. It also works well under makeup.
I always use a vitamin C serum in my morning routine before SPF and that’s what I have been doing when using this sunscreen. Lately, I have been pairing Dr Brandt Liquid Sun Shield with their C-Scription Vitamin C serum and it’s the perfect dewy skin duo for a lasting hydrated glow!
It’s worth a mention that the formula is said to be fragrance-free but I find it to be lightly scented (there’s a subtle floral-ish scent) Also, the formula contains lavender oil which can cause skin irritation for some people…thankfully it’s towards the end of the ingredient list which means it’s there in a low concentration.
The only thing I am not a fan of? The price of this sunscreen, $65 for 1.7 oz. As much as I love it, I do wish it was a bit more budget-friendly!
Bottom Line
Dr Brandt Liquid Sun Shield is a fantastic mineral sunscreen that provides effective broad-spectrum sun protection without any white cast or greasiness. The formula has a nice balance of hydrating without feeling heavy and is especially a great choice for dry skin types.
If chemical-based sunscreens irritate your skin or make your eyes sting, this sunscreen is sure to please! It is on the expensive side but if you have the budget, it’s worth trying out.
