Throughout the history, men and women have been in the quest of eternal youth. So far, we have not been able to find the elixir of youth but the modern times have brought with them many tools and procedures which promise to make a person look much younger than they are. Going under the knife or under the needle seems to be the norm nowadays and botox, fillers, collagen are common words.
However, most of us still would choose to age gracefully and without the help of chemicals. Luckily, some nifty makeup and hair tips and tricks can also help women to take years off their face.
Face
The most important thing as you age is to lighten up on the concealer and foundation. Although one is tempted to cover every little mark and flaw with the concealer, restrain yourself. Less is more and instead of quantity of products focus on the right application techniques. Too much makeup looks cakey and accentuates flaws like wrinkles. Switch to tinted sheer foundation with yellow undertones. Yellow makes skin look warm and therefore younger. Also since your skin tone changes with age, you should consult a good make up artist/consultant for the right shade of foundation.
Ditch the powder, because not only does it settle in wrinkles making the skin look leathery but also because it mattifies the skin. A matte look is great when you are young and skin is shiny but with age this natural shine starts reducing and applying powder will make your skin look dull.
Eyes
The biggest change you can bring to your eyes as you age is using an eyelash curler. Drooping eyes look older and tired and curled eyelashes will make your eyes look brighter. If you use eyeshadows, don’t forget to use an eyeshadow primer first. If you have wrinkles then the eyeshadow creases more and creased shadow in turn makes your eyes look wrinklier. Although metallic & frosty eyeshadows are a no-no, you can go for sheer and slightly shimmery shades which will keep your eyes light and airy.
Define your eyes with a dark brown liner which will make your eyes appear intense but with sophistication. Also, don’t tweeze your brows too much as it makes your eyes look harsh and overdone. Instead, let them be in their natural shape and use a brow pencil to make them look fuller.
Lips
As your face grows older, lips become thinner and the lines around them become more prominent. So it is essential that you apply a lip liner (closest to your skin shade) because it will not let the lipstick bleed and seep into those lines making you look much older. You can also opt for lipstick stains to color your lips without any bleeding issues.
If thinning lips is your problem then use lip plumping lipsticks or a simple trick can be to apply clear gloss to the center of your bottom lip and along the bow of the upper lip. This will attract light to the thickest parts of your lips and create the illusion of fuller lips.
Switch to glossy and nude shades of lipsticks which will make your lips look fuller and thus younger. Using pigmented gloss over the lipstick will make lipcolor last longer and would need less touch-ups.
Hair
Get rid of the grays which can make your skin look sallow, opt for a rich but not too dark shade with warm highlights as it will bring out your best features. According to most stylists, the perfect haircut is somewhere between your chin and shoulders. If your hair length is too short it can look harsh and if your hair is too long it might weigh down your hair and your features.
Get side-swept bangs as it will give you a fresh look and also help hide fine lines and wrinkles. Ask your stylist to cut your bangs about an inch below your eyes.
If thinning hair is your bane, then add a volumiizing shampoo and conditioner to your routine. Also, avoid tight buns, ponytails and excessive use of styling products. Hair also gets frizzier with age but you can remedy this by using lightweight leave-in conditioners and hair serums.
I hope these simple makeup and hair tips will help you shed off years from your look. But more importantly remember to live, laugh and love. Let me say that age is just a number and wrinkles are merely an indication of where smiles have been. Stay beautiful!
As always would love to hear your comments.
