Summer is almost here and just like all of you I am also looking forward to soak up the Sun. As much as we all like to enjoy sunny days, protection from the Sun’s UVA and UVB rays is very important to prevent sunburn and premature aging of the skin. Frequent exposure to the UV rays without protection can also lead to skin cancer.
As I was searching for a good sunscreen today for my upcoming Hawaii trip in June, I came across this recent news story on AOL stating sunscreens maybe accelerating cancer. http://www.aolnews.com/health/article/study-many-sunscreens-may-be-accelerating-cancer/19488158
This caught my attention and I read the entire story which led me to the Environmental Working Group’s website (http://www.ewg.org/2010sunscreen/ )that offers tons of information on Sunscreens and protecting your skin from the damaging UV rays. On their website, you can find tips on finding the right sunscreen for your needs. They recommend mineral-based sunscreens (containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) instead of chemical based ( most common drugstore brands like Neutrogena or Aveeno have chemical based formulas).Since I have a 1-yr old daughter, I am especially concerned about protecting her delicate and sensitive skin in the sun with a sunscreen sans chemicals. I already use California Baby SPF 30 + Sunscreen Lotion for my baby.In general, I always prefer to use products with more naturally derived ingredients,I found Loving Naturals Organic SPF 30 Sunscreen to be a good candidate for my beach getaway.
Hope you find this information useful. Have a happy Summer!
