On a recent trip to Fred Meyer, I spotted the Magneffect Nail Polishes from Layla Cosmetics. I have been curious about this new magnetic nail color trend so decided to pick up a shade to see how it works! These polishes are not cheap with their $15 price tag so I thought of trying out a single shade first and come back for more if I am floored by this new nail technology.
Product description : Layla Magneffect Nail Polish is a revolutionary blend formulated to react to the magnet on the cap, creating instant, three-dimensional designs in seconds. Simply apply a coat, flip over the cap with the magnet and hold over the nail as close as possible without touching for 10 seconds. See the design appear right before your eyes!
I tried the shade Brown Sugar which is described as a flow of browns and whites. It was a little difficult to capture the magnetic effect nicely in the photographs but after several tries, I managed to get a decent enough shot…….here it is:
The overall effect is subtle but really nice with a wave appearing on top of your nail color and the three-dimensional design looks pretty good as light hits your nails. The nail color itself has a glossy finish so I skipped the top coat. What I like is that the magnet effect is very easy to achieve but make sure to hold the magnet immediately after applying the polish on top of the nail for at least 5 seconds and just apply 1- 2 coats for best results.
The line you see on the cap indicates the direction of the magnetic field. Hold over the nail in the direction that you wish your design to take and see the design appear. So, you can have different patterns every time if you want.
Overall, I’m not quite sure if I really love this magnetic nail polish. It’s nice but somehow I don’t feel like spending another $15 for a second shade yet. Do I recommend it? Absolutely, it’s worth picking up especially if you are a nail fanatic or love nail art!
Layla Magneffect nail polishes are free of formaldehyde, toluene and DBP and not tested on animals.

oh! nice shade and different idea having the magnet effect. is that the reason why it is expensive? 🙂

Soos – Thank you! I agree….it is a bit pricey.
Harshleen says
