Sun, sea salt, heat, chlorine… all the elements of a perfect summer also happen to be the perfect recipe for brittle, dry and frizzy hair. Between chlorinated dips in the pool and hours of sun exposure at the beach, summer can really do a number on our hair.
If you have been lamenting the damage summer has done to your strands, here are a few of my haircare favorites that can help bring back dull, sun-ravaged strands to their former glory! The best part is that these are all easily available at the drugstores…summer-stressed tresses be gone!
Pantene Pro-V Weekly Rehab Crème ($3.99) – I have raved about this deep conditioning hair mask a few times before! I love how incredibly hydrating it is and works its magic in just 5 minutes (without ever weighing down my hair!).
Enriched with Mosa Mint Oil and antioxidants, this super lux crème really packs a punch and provides long-lasting moisture for a healthy, hydrated feel. It’s specially formulated for use on color-treated hair and it’s $4 price tag makes it a fabulous beauty bargain!
Nexxus New York Oil Infinite Nourishing Hair Oil ($18.99) – This is a new favorite! Infused with a rich 6-oil blend, including Babassu and Marula Oils, it’s like an anti-aging serum for worn-out, damaged hair.
I use it after shampooing on damp hair from mid-length to ends and love how lightweight it is without being greasy! It improves manageability and tames frizz while smoothing & adding a healthy dose of shine!
Carols Daughter Sacred Tiare Anti-Breakage and Anti-Frizz Smoothing Serum ($13.30) – This lightweight serum contains hair-strengthening Coprah Coconut Oil blended with Vitamin E and Tiare Gardenia Flower to boost your strands.
Whether you’re battling dry scalp or serious static, this one will smooth things over. Plus, it’s free of parabens and silicones so you won’t have to worry about buildup!
L’Oréal® Paris Oleo Therapy Sulfate-Free Replenishing Shampoo & Conditioner ($5.99) – Designed for dull, dry & damaged hair, L’Oreal’s Oleo Therapy line is just perfect for this time of year! Infused with 6 flower oil blend, the SLS free shampoo has a gentle, moisturizing formula that doesn’t leave my hair feeling dried out.
And I really like its light floral scent! I am also a fan of the Oleo Therapy Perfecting Oil Essence that nourishes & smooths my unruly hair without the grease factor!
Clairol Hair Food Moisturizing Hair Mask ($11.99) – I love a good hair mask and this one is my newest hair obsession! It’s a rich, ultra-hydrating hair mask that adds a ton of moisture and makes my frizzy, color-treated, dry hair feel super soft without weighing them down.
I also like its honey apricot scent. It’s truly a luxurious treat for your strands…and the best part is that it’s easily available at Target! Bonus: it’s paraben and mineral oil free.
TRESemmé 7 Day Keratin Smooth Heat Activated Treatment ($6.99) – Can’t live without your flat iron? Don’t let heat damage your hair – use it to your advantage with the help of this hydrolyzed keratin protein infused treatment that works with the heat of your flat iron to transform unruly locks into silky-smooth hair that lasts up to a week.
Just spritz it through towel-dried hair, blow-dry, and then flatiron small sections to seal in the smoothness! It’s gentle enough to be used on color-treated hair.
SheaMoisture Moisture-Rich, Ammonia-Free Hair Color System ($14.99) – If you have really dry hair and you color them at home, this one is a must-have! First off, I love that it’s ammonia-free and doesn’t have any toxic smell. I have a lot of grays and it covers well and leaves my hair feeling soft, thanks to the shea butter in the formula!
This hair color is a little more expensive than the regular dyes but I think it’s worth every penny. Another plus is that it comes with a small kit that contains a shampoo, conditioner and conditioning oil for color-treated hair.
And if you are a fan of cleansing conditioners like me, be sure to check out this list of Best Cleansing Conditioners Under $10
What are your drugstore haircare favorites? I would love to know! Don’t forget to share with us in the comments…

I haven’t tried any of these, but that Clairol mask sounds great.

I love Batiste dry shampoo. It’s a life-saver and my top drugstore hair care pick.
I wish Carol’s Daughter and Shea Moisture products were more readily available in Canada.
