The Only 1 Lipstick, but with a matte finish.
New from Rimmel London, The Only 1 Matte Lipstick range is a collection of mattes that promise to deliver long-lasting, non-drying color, moisture and wear. Available in 10 new matte shades with a good mix of neutrals, brights and darks, the formulation is similar to Rimmel’s originalRimmel London The Only 1 Matte Lipstick comes in a sleek red tube with a swiveled bullet design for easy application. I tried out 2 shades from the range, High Flyer, a mauve rose which is a versatile and flattering shade that would look good on almost every skin tone…it’s the perfect everyday lip color! Take the Stage is a bright and beautiful classic red that’s neither cool, nor too warm toned.
The texture is creamy smooth, lightweight, and glides across lips easily. There’s none of that dragging which is sometimes the case with matte lipsticks. These lipsticks have a beautiful velvet matte finish that’s anything but flat! Now that it’s winter, I like to use a hydrating lip balm (before applying the lipstick) if my lips are already feeling very dry.
Speaking of pigmentation, the formula also delivers on that front! One swipe is all you need to get an opaque, vibrant color and that goes for both the shades I tried. It’s also easy to build up the color with a second coat to amp up the intensity for a bolder look.
And best of all, the color stays put well through tea/coffee breaks and won’t disappear completely even after lunchtime. It tends to leave behind a bright stain that looks like the color is still on your lips. Here are the swatches…
There’s only one little thing I don’t like about the Rimmel’s The Only 1 Matte Lipstick, and that’s the scent. It’s a fruity, chemically scent that I find a bit unpleasant. Thankfully, it’s not too strong on the lips and fades away soon after application.
If you’re looking for an affordable and long-lasting drugstore matte lipstick with an amazing color pay-off, I’d definitely recommend trying this one out! Available now at Walgreens, Target, and Ulta for $7.79 each.
I also tried out the new Rimmel London #InstaFlawless Perfecting Radiant Skin Tint which is essentially a tinted primer that can be worn alone for a radiant glow or under makeup to extend the wear. The tinted formula (with SPF 15) is really lightweight and nicely moisturizing, with a subtle dewy finish that I really like!
It doesn’t provide any coverage on its own but does a good job of smoothing & prepping skin for makeup and help my foundation last longer. It’s available in 2 shades – Light Medium and Medium Dark. I received Medium Dark which is a bit too dark for my medium skintone but I like the formula overall. If you need a lightweight, hydrating primer, this new drugstore option is definitely worth checking out and it’s only $7! Available at Ulta and drugstores nationwide.
