Just like all IT cosmetics products, Confidence in a Compact foundation is loaded with a ton of good-for-your-skin ingredients like hydrolyzed collagen, hyaluronic acid, squalane, antioxidants, ceramide complex plus broad-spectrum physical sunscreen. Available in 7 shades, this serum enriched cream foundation comes in a dual compartment compact that holds a sponge applicator on the upper level. I found a nearly perfect match in Medium for now but I would probably need Medium-Tan for summer.
I have tried cream compact foundations before but this one is different…it’s really a ‘solid serum’ which is solid at first but as you apply with the sponge or a brush, it goes on as a creamy foundation with a lightweight feel. The formula isn’t quite hydrating as I’d expected it to be though, so make sure to prep and moisturize properly first, especially if you have dry skin like me! (to avoid the foundation clinging to your drier areas)
Speaking of application, although I am not a fan of sponges, the included sponge does a pretty good job. IT cosmetics recommends using the Heavenly Skin Skin-Smoothing Complexion Brush for applying this foundation. It’s a really nice brush with super soft, dense bristles and an angled shape, perfect for buffing foundation into the skin. That said, you don’t necessarily need to buy it for the best application…unless of course, you are a big fan of IT cosmetics brushes like me!
Whether you use the sponge or brush, just make sure to press it down firmly and swirl it around into the foundation to ‘activate’ the solid serum formula…a light dipping might not pick up enough product on the brush.
As for the coverage, it starts as light but is pretty easy to build up to a solid medium/almost full coverage, without a cakey or mask-like feel. This foundation evens out and brightens my dull complexion perfectly, and covers my post-acne scars and dark spots almost completely.
And even after building up the coverage, the formula feels comfortably light on my skin! It has a natural satin finish, that’s neither matte nor dewy and I like it! My only gripe is that the coverage isn’t very long-lasting….I usually get about 7 hours but it might be longer if you set it with a powder…I don’t. Here are the swatches for the shades I tried : Medium (light-medium skin tone) and Medium-Tan (warm or golden medium skin tone)
Bottom Line
If you are looking for a creamy foundation that offers great coverage and a natural satin finish, with anti-aging skincare benefits and broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen to boot, IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact might be your best bet! Plus, the travel-friendly compact is easy to tuck in your purse. It will definitely be a summer-travel staple for me!
