latest drugstore makeup launches I posted about a few weeks ago. Infused with Vitamins E, B3, B5 plus SPF 20, this new drugstore foundation promises correction, protection, and perfection all in one for healthy glowing skin.
The new Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation is one of theA full-coverage drugstore foundation with a hydrating formula that gives skin a healthy glow? Yes, please! Of course, I couldn’t resist giving it a try…but does it really live up to its claims? Keep reading to find out…
Going by the description of Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation, I was hoping to have found another great addition to my list of the best drugstore foundations for dry skin. After trying it out though, I feel like it leaves a little something to be desired in the hydration department, despite being a great foundation overall.
First off, this oil-free foundation has a lightweight, creamy fluid formula that goes on very smoothly and blends out easily. Although I like the slight creaminess in the texture, I didn’t find the formula hydrating. However, I have dry skin so those with combination to oily skin might find it hydrating.
I picked up the shade Medium Beige (#742) which turned out to be a nearly perfect match for my light-medium skin tone.
As I’ve said before, I always prep my skin with a hydrating primer before applying any foundation. I really like the Covergirl Trublend Face Primer for dry skin. Another of my favorites is NYX Hydra-Touch Primer…I think it’s one of the best drugstore primers for dry skin!
Anyways, let’s get back to the foundation. Coverage wise, the formula is quite impressive! It provides a solid medium to almost full coverage. I have noticeable acne scars and dark spots and this foundation doesn’t completely cover those problem areas but I can easily get it up to full coverage with a bit of spot concealing underneath.
Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation does make my skin look healthy and beautiful with a natural finish. It gives me a lovely satin matte finish when I prep my skin with the Covergirl TruBlend primer but if I use a different primer like the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, the finish is totally matte. The finish is not at all glowing or luminous as I had assumed from the product description!
This foundation stays on really well too with only minor fading by the end of the day. With my dry skin, I don’t need to set with a powder. And the SPF is always a nice addition!
The only thing I don’t like about this foundation is that it does have a fairly strong floral-ish scent. Thankfully, it fades away pretty quickly after application. I am not highly sensitive to fragrance in makeup or skincare but it could be an issue for somebody who is!
Bottom Line
If you are looking for an affordable drugstore foundation with medium to full coverage and natural matte finish, Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation is well worth consideration. It really does make your skin look healthy and boosts a dull complexion nicely. Plus, the vitamin-infused formula has skincare benefits and SPF 20 to boot!
In my opinion, this is one of the few almost-full-coverage drugstore foundations that doesn’t look/feel thick or cakey and doesn’t dull down skin’s natural radiance (which is an important factor especially for those with dry skin like me!)
Available at Ulta and Amazon.com for $11.99
Will you be trying out the Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation?
