If you are a fan of natural, clean and high-performance skincare products that are also budget-friendly, I am sure you’ve tried Mad Hippie skincare or at least familiar with the brand!
Mad Hippie has released two new products that are designed to smooth, hydrate and brighten your skin while supporting the skin barrier. Let’s take a look….
Mad Hippie AHA + BHA Milk Serum ($25.99)
This is an overnight exfoliating formula designed to smooth and refine skin while respecting the skin barrier – delivering visible results without the dryness, flaking, or recovery days often associated with exfoliation.
This serum is formulated with glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid to smooth and brighten dull skin while unclogging pores and clearing build up. The formula is also enriched with polyglutamic acid, hyaluronic acid, ceramides and squalane to keep skin hydrated and soft.
Texture-wise, this exfoliating serum has a lightweight milky-liquid formula that absorbs easily. It doesn’t feel sticky or greasy and it’s also fragrance-free. If you’re new to exfoliating acids, you might experience very subtle tingling sensation at first but that should go away in a few seconds. I didn’t feel any of that since my skin is used to regular exfoliation. If you have hyper-sensitive skin, they recommend patch testing first.
How often should the Mad Hippie AHA + BHA Milk Serum be used?
Start with 2–3 nights per week, then you can work it up to nightly use as your skin adjusts. Apply to clean, dry skin in the evening and follow with a moisturizer (or a rich night cream, if you have dry skin like me!) And avoid layering with vitamin C or retinoids in the same routine.

I really like this serum! It does a good job of smoothing skin texture and brightening dull skin with consistent use. And I appreciate that it doesn’t have any unnecessary irritating ingredients or essential oils (usually added for fragrance) so it provides effective exfoliation without compromising your skin over time.
I just wish they had mentioned the exact percentages of the glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid in the formulation! I looked up the full ingredient list for this serum on Mad Hippie’s website and it seems that glycolic acid (which is the second ingredient) is in the highest concentration followed by lactic acid. And salicylic acid appears way towards the end of the INCI list which indicates a lower concentration.
Mad Hippie Brightening Gel Moisturizer ($29)
This is a lightweight, oil-free gel that helps brighten dull skin, soothe and hydrate without any heaviness. The formula contains Hyaluronic Acid for hydration, Niacinamide to calm irritation or redness, Betaine to restore moisture and stabilized vitamin C (ethyl ascorbic acid) to brighten skin and offer antioxidant support.
This moisturizer has a very lightweight, silky texture that just glides on my skin! It absorbs quickly, leaving a fresh, non-greasy finish ideal for for oily and acne-prone skin.
I have naturally dry skin so this moisturizer is not hydrating enough for me but I think those with combination to oily and acne-prone skin would really like the weightless hydration this product provides!
Also, the formula is non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores) and fragrance-free so it’s well-suited for sensitive and acne-prone skin. It can be used daily morning or night, but it’s especially great for daytime and layering under sunscreen and makeup.
