If you are looking for an effective Vitamin C serum that also comes with an affordable price tag, you’ve come to the right place! Today I am talking about 4 high-potency vitamin C serums which prove that you don’t need to shell out all your cash to fade dark spots or hyperpigmentation and achieve brighter, more even-toned skin.
Yes, these serums are as effective as the pricey stuff when used consistently. All of the serums listed below are formulated with L-ascorbic acid, the most biologically available form of vitamin that’s clinically proven to brighten skin and boost collagen production.
The only drawback of pure Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is that it is super unstable, and hard to formulate with. All of these serums use a low pH (3.0 – 3.5) and extra antioxidants like ferulic acid and vitamin E that help to stabilize vitamin C and increase its potency. Even then, these vitamin C serums have a shelf-life of only about 3-4 months.

That’s why, it’s important to store vitamin C serum in a cool, dark area which minimizes oxidation and prolongs effectiveness (even better if you keep it in the fridge!) And make sure to close the lid tightly immediately after use.
Pro tip: It’s best to use a vitamin C serum before your sunscreen every morning to get the most out of its antioxidant benefits. Vitamin C boosts the UV protection of your sunscreen making it more effective.
Now let’s get into the details of each serum…
Geek & Gorgeous C-Glow Serum ($14.90)
This is a super-light, water-like serum with 15% pure vitamin C (ascorbic acid) plus antioxidants (ferulic Acid + vitamin E) to boost collagen, fade dark spots and improve uneven skin tone while protecting your skin against free-radical damage. The formula contains a high amount of Ferulic Acid, and a smaller amount of vitamin E.
Suitable for all skin types, the formula is free of any fragrance or essential oils and is created fresh in small batches every week. I love its water-like, weightless liquid texture that feels like nothing on the skin. It does have that typical vitamin C serum scent but it fades right away. Also available at Amazon.com
However, if you have sensitive or redness-prone skin, the C-Glow serum might not be the right option for you due to its low pH and high pure ascorbic acid content.

Prequel Lucent-C Vitamin C Serum 15% ($23)
This radiance boosting serum is formulated with a potent blend of 15% pure vitamin C (ascorbic acid), ferulic acid, ergothioneine, niacinamide and inulin that helps brighten and firm skin while providing ample antioxidant benefits for a glowing complexion.
I love the lightweight texture of this serum that absorbs easily and doesn’t feel heavy or sticky. Also, I like that the formula is fragrance-free and non-comedogenic. Available at Target and Amazon.com
Skincare Generics CE Serum ($39.99)
This serum is literally a DUPE for the SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic® serum ($185) which is considered as the gold-standard vitamin C formula.
SkinCeuticals patent for C E Ferulic serum finally expired in April 2025 (after 20 years), so now other brands can legally recreate its powerful, iconic formula and sell their own version at a lower price point.
Skincare Generics CE Serum has exactly the same ingredient list as the SkinCeuticals vitamin C serum. Of course, we don’t know the exact percentages of all the ingredients, but both the serums contain a synergistic antioxidant combination of 15% pure vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), 1% vitamin E (alpha tocopherol), and 0.5% ferulic acid in an optimal, acidic pH for maximum absorption and efficacy.
Texture-wise, this serum has a lightweight formula that absorbs easily and doesn’t feel greasy or sticky. It’s also fragrance-free and suitable for all skin types, except for sensitive skin (due to its high concentration of ascorbic acid and low pH)

COSRX The Vitamin C 13 Serum ($21)
Formulated with 13% pure vitamin C (ascorbic acid), hyaluronic acid and allantoin, this is a gentle water-based vitamin C serum that is suitable even for sensitive skin. It also contains tocotrienol (super vitamin E) that boasts up to 50 times greater anti-oxidizing efficacy than tocopherol.
It has a very lightweight, watery texture that absorbs pretty quickly without a sticky or tacky feel. This one also has the typical vitamin C serum scent but it goes away within a minute or so. Available at Ulta Beauty and Amazon.com
